OpenClinica is very widely used around the world in clinical trials data capture and management. It consists of a series of web-based forms for data entry (these are tailored specifically for each individual project or study) and a fully-audited database that stores the information securely.
It has been chosen by the NBRCIT for use in the Rare Disease Bioresource for several reasons:
- It is web-based, so people can easily enter data if they have an account and access to a computer connected to the internet
- Users can quickly design and build forms for capturing data with the only minimal training required (you do not need to know computer programming)
- It is secure and trusted – it is a fully audited system where changes that are made to the data are logged in detail
- It has an active user and developer community
